چکیده

Acacia ri`idula Benth[\ blackbrush\ is a shrub found growing on rocky ridges in west and southwest Texas and northern Mexico[ Consumption of blackbrush and a related species guajillo\ Acacia berlandieri Benth[\ has been associated with a locomotor ataxia known as {{limber leg||[ In an e}ort to identify the mechanism of this toxicity\ blackbrush was subjected to rigorous chemical analysis[ In addition to the four previously detected amines\ N!methyl!b!phenethylamine\ tyramine\ N!methyltyramine\ and hordenine\ 39 other alkaloids and amines were isolated and identi_ed by GC!MS[ These alkaloids and amines included nicotine\ N\N!dimethyltryptamine\ mescaline\ several tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloids\ and four amphetamines[ A sig! ni_cant increase in the number and relative quantities of these compounds was observed in late season foliage[ Þ 0887 Elsevier Science Ltd[ All rights reserved

Acute physiological effects of the commercially available weight loss/energy product, Fastin-XR®, in contrast with the individual effects of caffeine and acacia rigidula

Background The prevalence of overweight and obesity worldwide has resulted in the growth of over the counter weight loss products into one the largest categories of nutritional supplements. However, few commercial products have been properly examined in finished commercial form and seldom have been studied in comparison with individual active ingredients. The purpose of this study was to invest...

Technical note: an improved method for extraction and quantification of toxic phenethylamines from Acacia berlandieri.

N-methyl-beta-phenethylamine (NMPEA) has been previously identified as the toxin causing locomotor ataxia in sheep and goats grazing the browse plant, Acacia berlandieri. We describe a simplified procedure for extraction and quantification of naturally occurring beta-phenethylamines from this Acacia species. Dried, ground plant tissue was extracted (1:20 wt/vol) with 1% glacial acetic acid and ...

Extraction And Isolation Of The Alkaloids From The Samanea Saman (Acacia) Bark: Its Antiseptic Potential

Antiseptics are being used to prevent the growth of pathogens which are major causes of diseases. Unfortunately, not everyone can use these antiseptics because of its price in the market. With this, the use of plants as sources of antiseptics gives rise to the continuous study of indigenous plants. Extraction and isolation of constituents such as alkaloid are commonly studied. It is believed th...

In Vivo and In Vitro Metabolites from the Main Diester and Monoester Diterpenoid Alkaloids in a Traditional Chinese Herb, the Aconitum Species

Diester diterpenoid alkaloids (DDAs), such as aconitine (AC), mesaconitine (MA), and hypaconitine (HA), are both pharmacologically active compounds and toxic ingredients in a traditional Chinese herb, the Aconitum species. Many DDA metabolism studies have been performed to explore mechanisms for reducing toxicity in these compounds and in Aconitum species extracts for safe clinical administrati...
